Meme Monday – Hampster Dance


Yes “hamPster”. Hamsterdance.com was already registered so the creator had to use the misspelled version as well as HamsterDance2.com. Webhamster.com shows you the way the original looked.

Using a sped up version of “Whistle Stop” by Roger Miller and GIFs of a bunch of cartoon rodents,  Deidre LaCarte created a web page in order to beat her sister in a contest to see who could get the most traffic. Getting 15,000 hits a day made her the winner. And it gave moms everywhere something to forward on to people that had seen it 5 years previously.

Somehow, 14 years later someone is still making money on these annoying rats with DVDs and Christmas CDs proving that a good meme never dies.
