This Saturday, Oct. 12th, is World Zombie Day and there are many events available around the United States and the world for you to join in some shambling fun throughout the weekend. We’ve done some research and are offering up a sampling of events that you might want to check out.
Nashville, TN – Nashville Zombie Walk
If you’re in the Tennessee area the Geeks would love for you to join us for the Nashville Zombie Walk happening in downtown Nashville on Saturday, Oct. 12th with gathering starting at 1pm and the walk officially kicking off at 2pm. She Geek is on the committee of organizers and has been working hard to create this community event that’s free to the public and also seeks to help others. With the idea that zombies stay hungry but people shouldn’t, all walkers are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items that will be donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank. So here’s your chance to dress up, have a geeky good time, and assist in feeding the hungry all at the same time.
The event is also the last chance to snag the pre-registration pricing on passes to the Geek Media Expo event taking place Nov. 1-3 that is a 48 hour extravaganza of all things geek.
Pittsburgh, PA – Pittsburgh Zombie Fest
The most famous zombie event is probably the one in Pittsburgh, PA which was started a nod to the location where George A. Romero filmed Dawn of the Dead. All attendees will be joining in an attempt to claim the Guinness World Record for “Largest Gathering of Zombies” while also helping a local food bank.
London – World Zombie Day London
Not only is London the setting for zombies movies such as 28 Days Later, but they also host thousands of zombies each year to groan and shamble through Central London while raising money for charity.
Overall Event Listings
There are tons of events in the works, and the folks over at DeathbyZombie.com have pulled together an extensive listing for you to easily find the one that is the closest or of most interest to you.
Not to be left in the wake of events, some people are getting on-board by offering ghoulish freebies. We found an author/musician that’s even offering free downloads of his zombie inspired The New Zeitgeist concept album and e-book during this weekend. You can access the links here: http://www.thekiefer.com/free-copies-of-the-new-zeitgeist-for-world-zombie-day-2013/
Movies & Games
If you’re schedule won’t allow you to attend any of the events this weekend, take some time to sit back and enjoy a zombie movie. Need suggestions? Check out our Halloween movie suggestions from earlier this week, and this weekend we’ll keep it zombie themed too.
You can also pull out your gaming system and partake in some zombie fun such as Resident Evil, Left 4 Dead, and Dead Island.
Whatever you do for World Zombie Day tomorrow, be sure to be respectful of others and when possible get involved and help the many causes that the walks and other events support. And again, we’d love for you to join us at the Nashville Zombie Walk with your food donations in tow.
